During development of the next version of Ext JS based WordPress Theme I have realized I need Ext JS on the admin side of WordPress. I am not going to tell you the whole story about it, but I have prepared a little gadget instead.
I am presenting Ext JS Admin Menu.
This is very simple plugin that alter wordpress’ awfull admin menu into the nice, drop-down Ext JS one. The best part is that it took about half of hour to make it happen. And this is really a good reason to check the power of Ext JS library.
The plugin includes a part of Ext JS 2.0 RC1 library and can be downloaded from downloads page.
I am aware that some people are waiting for the next (better) version of the theme, but it really requires a lot of time; it is one man hobby project, thus please be patient. Also, please do not expect finished versions here. I am just playing with Ext JS library.
Note: This is
discontinued as WordPress Admin interface has been redesigned twice since the release of this gadget. You can download it, however, from here:
Ext JS Admin Menu v. 0.1 (71 kB).

Hello
I’m currently using a french version of WordPress 2.3.1 and I just installed the ExtJS Admin Menu.
I don’t know if it’s because I’m using a french verison of the interface, but when activating the plugin, no menu is displayed (neither the default one, nor the ExtJS one…)
can you help me ?
thanx in advance !
best regards
Sylvain.
@Sylvian
It did not work because the plugin required json extension installed on the server. I have included JSON.php file from PEAR HTML_AJAX distribution and it should work right now on server without json php extension. Modified version is available for download.
Hello,
i am having the same problem and i installed the plugin incl. the JSON.php file. But still, nothing shows. I even tried it without this file and nothing.
Do you have idea what this could be?
Thank you in advance.
Kind regards,
Thorsten
Hey there,
I’m playing with the theme and thought i’d try this plugin too. I’m having the same problem as the OP, I’ve got the JSON extension installed but I have no menu at all.
Actually seeing as there’s a problem with 2.3.1 and the theme, I’ve tried both the theme and this plugin with 2.2.3 and they’re both just perfect.
I guess when all the updating is done we’ll have some really pretty stuff to use
Your plugin doesn’t work. The admin menu simply disappear
with firefox 2.0.0.11
with Internet Explorer 6.0.2900.2180
with Opera 9.22
Very cool! I adore this lib
I have the same problem with Firefox 2.0.11 and WordPress 2.3.1. Admin menu just disappears, new menu doesn’t show up.
I think this would make a great addition to the WordPress admin interface and am looking to try it. How about creating a whole theme for the admin interface? WordPress desperately needs a new admin interface.
This theme is so good but the speed of loading index page is too slow…
could it be resolved?
hey,there
how to add the rss icon after “Extras”?
hey,there
I found the google-ads can’t be refresh when I open other article
Hi,
I’ve installed your plugin on site and it work very fine.
(WP 2.3.2 French).
Very good job!!!
I dream to be able to do the same with site navigation (Home, Pages, Images etc…) with my theme (aspire).
But I’m not a programmer and I don’t know if it’s possible, and how…
Very nice wp-plugin!!
Hi – I am very partial to ExtJS and really appreciate this theme.
Bit I came by to echo what minidxer wrote about a month ago: some of the people I asked for feedback commented on how it’s slow to load … I didn’t tell them, but that’s what I was looking for.
Any suggestions where we should start w/optimization? I know the library is already compressed.
cheers

Hi, thanks for the nice and clean plugin! Im currently using it and it work just fine with my IE 7, Firefox 2 and WordPress vers 2.3.1.
I replaced the previous admin drop down plugin that I used with your plugin. =D
In my opinion, the size of the admin drop down menu is kind of small. It’ll be nice if you make the size bigger.
Hope to see some smilies available for the comment area too XD
Hy. Thanks for this plugin!
I’m using wordpress in my personal host (domain) with portuguese (Brazil) language pack, and the plugin works fine!
But, the menus don’t show any icons, can i put icons that (using css)? If you tell me how to make this i’ll include icons and send to you the new package (free icons). One question, the css is equal to all menus, or the menus have id, or class param?
Thanks a lot!
For people having problems with the menu not displaying, try downloading the version on this site instead of wordpress.net. The folder names are different and I’m thinking there must be some incorrect paths going on, as the one off extjswordpress.net works fine for me and the other doesn’t..
Thank you for this great plugin! I love it!
good!
Really cool!
test
how to set the defualt theme ?
I want to use vista black in stead of aero glass . I want this skin to load by default .
thanks
saeed
ohh very beatifull article thanks downloaded plugin
This is really great
thanks you……….
Thank you for your cool theme!!!
this is an awesome theme. will be using it for an intranet. i have one question though…
is it possible to incorporate some of the extjs functions such as paragraph highlighting and mouseover effects? is the entire extjs 1.1 library included in this so I can apply the custom styling?
Also do you have any plans on upgrading the theme to use extjs2?
thanks
I love this theme and am trying to use the syntaxhilighter with it, http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/syntaxhighlighter/installation/ but for some reason it is not working properly. I use this plugin on other WordPress 2.5 installations without any problems except when I try to use it here the javascript/css is not loaded or formatted.
do you have any suggestions? problem only happens on the extjswordpress theme
